Thanks to my Ma'm......

Here goes my second blog :)

Thanks to my History Ma'm Mrs. Kala Duraiswami.

I studied in a very small English Medium School till my 5th std where we speak in Tamil even though the medium of teaching shud have been English. Not to blame the school. I have a lot of gud memories and learnings there. Tat was my first school of course. I got into a CBSE school for my 6th. I was happy to get into a new and a different atmosphere than before as well as worried and tensed to the core since I have to speak only in English (with the Staffs atleast).

Both me and my 6th class teacher were new to the school. I used to keep quiet in the class when the teachers ask questions inspite of knowing the answers and have got punishment too for not answering. Tat was coz, I had fear tat ppl wud tease me with the way I speak English, my grammatical mistakes, vocabulary, accent and so on. One person who guessed tat I have some problem and who showed interest in asking me the problem with the intention of helping me was my History Ma'm (Class Teacher too) Mrs. Kala Duraiswami.

She was the one who gave me the confidence and helped me out. She asked me to speak in English with her alone atleast and said she wud correct me if I go wrong. I just did wat she said. I used to go near her and speak (in English) and wud make sure tat no other person is able to hear wat I speak. I did for few months and tis helped me a lot to improve. She used to correct my mistakes and help me with the correct usage. Now, I am pretty decent in the language usage, if not great.

I am now treated as someone who is gud at communication and someone who has gud command over the language and a preferred representative. All credit goes to her.

Attaining command over a language isn't a big deal. Gut is wat we need and speak without hesitation even if we are wrong. None can sue us for not being fluent. As long as we are successful in communicating wat we want to, grammatical mistakes or our speed in delivering the speech or the vocabulary doesn't matter.

I have shared tis experience with my frens who worry abt not being able to speak in English with confidence. I wanted to write tis note to thank my ma'm.

I was lucky enough to get such a person in my life to help me gain confidence.

Once again, Thanks to my ma'm :)

  3. I think she gave more confidence... She didn't know that we will struggle this much :-). There is one proverb in tamil "Alavukku meerinaal amirthamum nanchu".
